Happy day!

Congratulations! The day you have long awaited is here your braces have been removed. The months of effort by Dr. Dilley and staff, by your family, and most of all by you, have produced a terrific new smile!
Hold that smile! Now comes the final phase of your orthodontic treatment ... retention. a retainer does just that it holds the result you have achieved. Until today, your teeth have been moving as the braces repositioned them. As braces are removed, your teeth are very mobile, easily moved, because they have not been in one position long enough for new bone to form around the roots. Your retainer holds your teeth still so that new bone can form around the roots and the teeth will stabilize in the correct position. IF RETAINERS ARE NOT WORN CONTINUALLY, TEETH WILL BEGIN TO SHIFT, AND YOU WILL LOSE THE RESULTS THAT YOU HAVE WAITED FOR, THAT YOU HAVE TODAY. After this initial phase of full time retainer wear, wear time will be reduced but continued to be sure to hold the best possible result.
These recommendations should be followed:
|
- You should wear your retainer all the time, day and night.
- You should remove your retainer for eating or drinking anything other than water. You should brush your teeth and retainer thoroughly, and replace the retainer in your mouth immediately after eating.
- Do not play with your retainer by flopping it in the mouth with your tongue action or manipulating it with your fingers.
- If, for any reason, you leave your retainer out of your mouth (acute illness, for example), you should keep it in water.
- Notify the office immediately if you should lose or break your retainer.

A word to the wise There is a $165 charge to replace a lost or broken retainer. Obviously, the best way to avoid losing it is to keep it in your mouth!
Again, we are happy that you have reached this milestone ... your braces are off and your new smiles looks great! The entire staff wants you to know how pleased we have been to have a part in creating the new you. As your retainers do their thing, we look forward to seeing you at each retention visit.
KEEP THAT BEAUTIFUL SMILE!
